Complete LED ribbon installation guide for building sites
Lighting on a construction site goes far beyond simply ensuring visibility. It plays a crucial role in safety, productivity and quality of work. As technologies evolve, traditional lighting methods are giving way to more efficient and flexible solutions. Among these innovations, LED ribbons for construction sites stand out for their versatility and performance.
In fact, over the years, site LED ribbons have become increasingly popular with professionals on construction sites all over the world, suitable for a multitude of applications.
Practical, economical and reliable, these lighting systems are particularly well-suited to short- and medium-term installations, and are highly appreciated by sectors such as public works/construction, industrial maintenance and upkeep, etc.
Today, we'd like to show you their main advantages, and above all, how to use and install them on your worksite to make them as efficient as possible.
What is a worksite LED ribbon?
A site LED ribbon is a flexible, versatile lighting solution specially designed to meet the lighting needs of construction sites. Unlike traditional luminaires, LED ribbons take the form of thin strips equipped with integrated light-emitting diodes (LEDs). These ribbons are often flexible, making them easy to install in a variety of spaces and site configurations. They offer a powerful yet energy-efficient light source, making them a popular choice for improving visibility and safety on construction sites.
In addition to providing sufficient brightness, LED construction ribbons are resistant to shock, vibration and humidity, making them suitable for harsh construction site environments. Their robust design and long service life also help to reduce maintenance and replacement costs compared with traditional lighting.
What are the advantages of a site LED ribbon?
Construction LED ribbons have many qualities, from economy to practicality... we invite you to discover their main advantages:
- Inexpensive : LED ribbons offer an economical solution with excellent light output. They can be used to light large spaces at lower cost than other devices.
- Energy-saving: these site lighting ribbons are energy-efficient, offering around 105 Lumens per watt. Compared with traditional halogen lighting, they offer energy savings of around 90%.
- Adaptability : ribbon lights can be positioned to suit your needs, illuminating precisely the areas you require. They can be cut every meter, allowing you to create customized strips. They can also be supplied with a reel for easy installation.
- Versatile use: suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications. Thanks to their high protection rating (IP68) and thermal resistance (-20°C to +50°C), they are perfectly waterproof, weatherproof and dustproof.
- Non-glare light: conforming to the NF "EN 62471" standard of December 2008, these ribbons present no photo-biological risk to the retina. They are also approved for use in the aeronautical sector, with a cool white color temperature (6000 - 6500°K).
- Long life: the LEDs used in our ribbons guarantee at least 50,000 hours of use under normal conditions.
LED ribbon applications on the construction site
LED ribbons are extremely versatile and suitable for a variety of applications on a construction site:
General lighting: LED ribbons are ideal for providing uniform general lighting throughout the worksite. They can be easily mounted on scaffolding, walls or ceilings, ensuring uniform light over the entire work area.
Safety lighting: safety being paramount on a construction site, LED ribbons can be used to illuminate potentially hazardous areas, restricted access zones and emergency exits. Their flexible installation ensures optimum visibility in critical areas, helping to reduce the risk of accidents.
Precise work lighting: for tasks requiring precise illumination, LED ribbons can be cut into smaller sections and mounted on adjustable brackets. This allows the light to be directed exactly where it's needed, improving the efficiency and precision of the work performed.
Night lighting: waterproof LED ribbons are particularly useful for lighting construction sites at night. By providing continuous, stable light, they improve worker safety and help maintain productivity even after the sun goes down.
LED ribbon types and installation
There are several types of LED ribbon available on the market, mainly differentiated by the type and number of LEDs per meter. The most common models are 3528, 5050 and 5630 ribbons, which can be monochrome, offering a single color, or RGB, allowing you to choose between red, green and blue. RGB LED ribbons are often supplied with a remote control to adjust colors to your preferences.
There are also different sizes of LED ribbon: 25cm, 50cm....
LED ribbons can be connected without a transformer. Available mainly in 220 V, these so-called "direct" ribbons connect directly to a standard electrical outlet. They are generally cut every 50 cm, and the cut sections can be reused with a connection kit. 220 V LED ribbons are very powerful, producing around 2100 Lumens per meter. Available in warm white (2800 K) and cool white (6000 K), these ribbons consume little energy, requiring just 10 watts per meter.
In theory, direct LED ribbons are waterproof and can be installed close to a water source. Installation is simple and requires no special skills. The ribbon is soldered to the front of the PCB, although the LED pins do not pass through the PCB. The rest of the connection is made with connector pins.
These LED ribbons offer a versatile, energy-efficient and easy-to-install lighting solution for a variety of needs.
